What I've Learned so Far

  1. I grew up running around barefoot and if it were possible would roam the world that way
  2. I leave the house enveloped in the scents of an herb garden, most people ask what smells like oregano or lavender and it's always me
  3. Books taught me to say goodnight to the moon, so naturally this means to not only treat human beings with respect, but the earth and its cosmic neighbors as well
  4. Not the best at editing, but that's been outweighed with plenty to say; I just have to polish it up beforehand
  5. I have two separate lives, The adult trying to be a good educator and influence to younger people and the little hippie that stays up too late writing and wants to navigate the world-preferably on foot(bare, if possible), by plane, train, and bike(once I've mastered the art of riding one ;) ).
  6. Nanowrimo works. I'm a day behind but at least it's helping with working on a deadline and thinking critically. Come to think of it, critical think is such an arbitrary concept when your working with fantasy and fiction elements
  7. Learning more than one language is a superpower
That's it so far, figured jotting this down was a great idea. Have a beautiful day

Camp Nanowrimo has finished and I didn't meet my word count goal of 25,000 BUT, I still consider this a tremendous win because words were put to paper every day,I worked on other projects, submitted work to a contest, and all in all, fell in love with writing again. So, major breakthrough there; I dug around in the closet and unearthed old notebooks from high school bursting with stories, poems, and lists of names. I transferred the name lists to another notebook and starting revamping a past project from school that I feeling strongly about. The characters never left when I decided to put that project on the backburner which meant that they themselves weren't wrong just the story. So, here's to the new one.

The reading routine has made a fine comeback and also a realization: I want to be an author more than anything. Right now I'm working a job I love with great coworkers and the next semester is coming up meaning my semester off is coming to a close. I've made the decision that if I become a full time author I won't go back to school; I already have my Associates degree but won't feel the need to finish my Bachelors. I'd also like to point out that after watching The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society(fantastic film! Lily James is a treasure!)I was hit with a nostalgia that came out of nowhere-sitting up way past bedtime to scribble away in notebooks with a Harry Potter soundtrack in my earbuds.  That's the key focus-that writing is worth doing because it's fun and a day dream I'll never quit.

Camp Nanowrimo!

These posts are far and few but I make no apologies; I've been on a gap semester and soaking it up with relaxing-as much as you can with a career-and reading. I've been falling back in love with writing and hit a bit of a reading slump, but jumped out when I started The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater. This is also being written on a rainy day best spent in jammies, but instead of jammies I'm in clothes comfortable enough to pass as them. Close enough.

Just thought I'd mention that I'm participating in Camp Nanowrimo this July. I've been saying I'll participate and never did for the past five years but it's going to happen! I'm going to do November Nano every year starting this year! I also hope I can go to The Night of Writing Dangerously next year. Made a deal with myself that if I participate and write everyday. even if I don't reach my goal word count, I'm going to buy a Nanowrimo shirt. The goal is 25,000 words, which means writing 833 words a day.  This is also the month whwn I'm going to distance myself from Youtube.

I watch it more than regular tv, unless it's Murder,She Wrote and, recently, Jack and Ozzy's World Detour. There are so many fantastic BookTubers out there! I need a break; my kindle has been less books more videos and I fasted YouTube for a month before and it was the best decision, so it's time to do it again. I've  also been letting go of some personal routines that make me happy. I've ben forgetting to have Bible time the past few nights, haven't made my evening tea, or utilized my designated reading time because of being exhausted. So, it's going to be a time of getting things back in order.

Routine or Lack there of

Sticking to a routine is difficult for me if school isn't involved. I was born with a happy-devil-may-care unstructured way of doing things and I have reached the point where nothing gets done. Then, I make the pathetic, haphazard "plan" of doing the unfinished thing tomorrow. A nice way of putting it off. So, I woke up turned on my laptop and started typing this up.

I will saw that my reading routine is the only one that's stuck through the years. When the day is done I get a shower, put on pajamas, make a cuppa and snuggle with a book. There are nights, however, when I fall asleep while reading in bed. Sometimes my full cup of tea is forgotten and when I go in for a sip my faces pinches when the stone cold liquid reaches my lips.

I've also started making my bed; it feels good to have that be the first accomplishment of the day. Getting up the same time everyday is a challenge I have yet to master since I read and do some writing until 1 am.  Well, that's it for now, I have to get dressed for work soon. Sitting in a housecoat and washed out Spongebob pajamas is a luxury but I have to start the day properly.

Monthly Steep 1

I picked this title because thinking back on the past month is, for me, like preparing a warm fresh cuppa. (Also that last word I just used, I really enjoy, so get used to that one.) I sit back and wait while the richness and occasional bitter, escaping tea leaf soak in. But I never let it ruin my teatime, so the unsavory bits don't ruin the over all month.

January has been easygoing and restful. I:got an email and its already been three months since starting my new job and love it. Five books have made it into my Already Read category this month and I purchased two new books; Stalking Jack the Ripper and It Girls. At the moment I'm reading Esperanza Rising.

Today is the first day after my YouTube and Instagram fast and I've come to realize that watching YouTube took up so much of my time and since quitting it for a while, I don't feel like the day has been wasted. On top of that I've been squeezing time in to write which kind of feels like I'm starting from square one again, but what can you do?

How's it going 2018

Alright, it's three weeks into the new year and I'm just now doing a post. Seriously, the rough draft was just scribbled out an hour ago and I'm typing it up in a Colorado Fattie T-shirt and pajama shorts. That's actually a career goal for me-to do nothing but write all day and not have to put on actual pants. A number of my New Years Resolutions involve writing, so that's a nice transition.

Resolutions/To-Do List for 2018

1) Read 65 books. And there's a tiny criteria list for this too.

  • Stop reading books I'm not interested in
  • Read more memoirs
  • Use my kindle as a kindle instead of a tablet
  • Read books I want to read.I have this gut feeling about a book, but then it's over shadowed with that stupid thought, "Oh, but THIS one's been on my shelf for three years I'll read it instead." Then I'm slogging along and not enjoying it as much. No more!
  • Take a book with me where ever I go. Easier said then done; then agin this is where the whole using the kindle as a kindle goal comes in.
2) Get that shitty first draft written (50,000 words)

3) Write a blog post once a week. I just rolled my eyes after typing that one.

5) Cut back on the YouTube. Currently I'm doing a 3 week fast for my spiritual health through my church and fasting YouTube and Instagram.

So, that's it for now. I hope this year has been kind to you all so far. Comment below.
